Living Outside The Box

Categories: New Homes, Prime Development | Posted: February 21, 2014

Persimmon Pointe is located in an unspoiled corner of northwest Olathe at 127th & Hedge Lane, just one mile west of Kansas Highway 7.  Its proximity to highways K-10, I-35 and I-435 provides quick access to shopping, dining, entertainment and job centers, but that’s not the only reason why buyers move there.  Teresa Acklin, community sales manager, reports that Persimmon Pointe is attractive to buyers not only because of its affordable prices and easy access to highway networks, but also for its rural surroundings.  “Many customers come from Gardner and Spring Hill looking for a new home that’s closer to work, without sacrificing the small-town feel,” said Acklin.  “They love the rural feeling, the rolling landscape and peaceful countryside.”

And the area will remain that way.  Hundreds of acres of parkland and conservation areas in the vicinity insure that life at Persimmon Pointe will never be far from nature’s doorstep.  “For the outdoor enthusiast, there’s no place in Johnson County with more opportunities for recreation so close at hand,” said Acklin.  “Our slogan, ‘Live Outside the Box’ describes the outdoor lifestyle that so many people here enjoy.”

Living at Persimmon Pointe affords families a variety of opportunities to enjoy some of the best public parks and recreational facilities in Johnson County.  Just around the corner, a three-mile trail system extends to Prairie Center Park and Ernie Miller Nature Center.  Prairie Center Park has picnic shelters, a children’s playground, sports fields, and a disc golf course.  Ernie Miller Nature Center is a 116-acre wildlife preserve with a network of trails that wind through diverse habitats of meadows and forests.  It also includes an educational center staffed by friendly park naturalists, eager to share their knowledge and love of nature.

Two miles from Persimmon Pointe is Lake Olathe, a 208-acre city park with a 170-acre deep-water lake for boating, fishing and swimming and large shelters for parties and family gatherings.  One long-time resident of the neighborhood describes Lake Olathe as a “Hidden Jewel” for its close proximity and many amenities.  Nestled into the surrounding park, lay an 18-hole disc golf course, and sandy beach where families can enjoy their afternoons outdoors.

Just past Lake Olathe, families can find peaceful solitude at Prairie Center, a 300-acre tallgrass prairie refuge managed by Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks – a place where the air is fresh and wildflowers flourish, where sweeping vistas offer stunning sunset views.  Enjoy the serenity of nature with three miles of trails winding through the diverse park.

Just south of Lake Olathe and Prairie Center, on 143rd St is Prairie Highlands Golf Course.  Ranked 29th in the Nation in the “Top 50 under $50” category Prairie Highlands is “a diamond in the rough.”  This course was designed by the well-known Kansas City golf architect Craig Schreiner.  Opening in May 2001, Prairie Highlands has been reaping honors ever since.  It has been ranked No. 3 among the state’s best public courses by both Golf Week and Golf Magazine and was the only Kansas City course in either Kansas or Missouri to be ranked.

For the truly adventuresome, six miles west of Persimmon Pointe, there’s Kill Creek Park and the adjacent Timber Ridge Adventure Center.  With a total of 1,084 acres, the combined facility is one of the county’s largest parks.  It offers a back-to-nature experience like no other in the region, with over twelve miles of hiking, mountain bike and equestrian trails.  Timber Ridge also hosts District-sponsored youth camps, and professionally certified challenge and ropes courses featuring 28 low elements, a 200-foot zip line and a climbing tower with 3 other high elements.  In addition to the Challenge Course, Timber Ridge offers other outdoor activities including fishing, archery, canoes, and paddleboats.

Most of these diverse parks and outdoor recreation areas are within an easy bike ride of Persimmon Pointe, but close to home, the Persimmon Pointe community pool is the place where neighbors get to know each other, and relax, swim, and enjoy warm summer days.

We invite those who are ready to “step outside the box” to visit Persimmon Pointe.  With new builders, new furnished models, seventeen new spec homes, and over fifty lots to choose from, many opportunities are here to be found.
